Locomotive Touch and Dive set the friendlies off and running in the best possible manner with an 8-2 victory over Bishops Caundle.Salvatori didn’t take long to show why he won the Division’s golden boot award last season with a twenty minute hat-trick. A cross from the right, a through ball and some pinball in the area made it 3-0.
Bishops Caundle scored on the counter attack before Sharkey restored the three goal advantage. Last season Stu Bramley failed to score from his back post hideout, but when Lee had the chance with a free kick ten yards in from the touch-line Stu scored his customary pre-season header. Look out for his celebration in next month’s ‘Footballer scoring or gay porn’ competition in Maxim magazine (September issue page 24).
Rob changed things round in the second half before Paul arrived and changed things round some more. Their pacy left winger needing two yards rather than man marking meant Loco couldn’t play off-side in the second half, but a second half clean sheet was only denied by a sympathetic penalty award.
Of the Loco second half goals all I can remember is Steve’s cross being turned into an own goal and Salva trying his Bomber ‘great save’ impression despite the defender doing his best to get himself a brace. The long grass made set pieces difficult, but the ball playing was at times exemplary. Not only were the team trying to do the right things, but it came off. There wasn’t a great deal of ball winning going on, but the Loco will have plenty of practice against West Moors for that!
