Capital Finance lose interest

Loco netted six at King George Fields today in a match which saw us three-men up against a sturdy First Capital Finance side.Well, we turned up to the match only to find that the home side could only field nine players, and this eventually became eight - so it was obvious that the Loco were going to be able to get some good possession football in this game. Psychologically, it was difficult to be motivated in a game where ‘casual’ seemed to be the theme, however the Loco went in 2-0 up at half-time, and then notched another 4 in the second half to make it a total of 6.

Tug was the first to score with a well positioned header, and this became two ten minutes later, as a corner dropped nicely to Barker, who was able to turn and lash the ball home from close range.

Kendall made it three moments after half-time with a well executed shot after a great run. Then Tug got on the scoresheet again twice in the space of 5 minutes, one with a shot from a tight-angle, and another coming from a well positioned header.

It became six later on, as Stu put in a long throw, which came off the head of the best FCF player on the pitch, and over the head of his own keeper into the back of the net.

A good game, with some good patient football, however it remains to be seen what the hell would have happened if they had eleven players. Thank goodness we never found out.

Winton thrash Loco

Locomotive got a lesson in football today from a class Winton side at Kings Park today, as the Brivati Cup champions walloped us 7-0 in a game to forget! The first 40 minutes was very good from Loco, as we managed to keep a full strength Winton side at bay successfully. With Darren again doing the familiar man-marking job, chances for both Navarro and Horlock were pretty limited and they weren’t making any in-roads.

However this all changed just before half-time as Winton netted two quick goals, including an excellent strike from distance, which Mike could do very little about.

The second half began in similar vein to how the fist half ended, with the home side doing most of the running, and playing some really good simple football - they certainly educated us on how easy it can be. Five well worked goals, including an excellent solo effort from Horlock, finished off any hopes that Touch and Dive were clinging on to.

Alderney prove credentials

Ali scored our only goal of the game as Alderney Manor beat Loco convincingly 5-1 today in a match to forget at Slades Farm. In the match, the away side showed shades of goodness, but the second half saw T&D positively collapse.

Alderney were always going to give us a tough game, just like they did when they narrowly beat us 2-1 earlier in the season. However today was a much more convincing performance from the best side in Division Five.

Unfortunately, with the match report being written a long time after the game, the goals are pretty difficult to describe considering they can’t be remembered, however there were a few cracking efforts, including a memorable one from the edge of the area which nestled nicely into the left corner of the net.

It was 3-0 to the home side at half-time, and although Loco netted a great goal when some good football resulted in Ali dinking the ball over the approaching keeper into the corner of the goal, the Manor never looked as though they lost control of the fixture.

The result was 5-1, and although it didn’t flatter the home side, there were some positives from Touch and Dive that were able to taken from the fixture - and hopefully this would bode well in the next match against league strugglers First Capital Finance.

Loco lose at home to Winton

For the first time in a while, Bomber was sober on the night before a game, and the team benefitted from it, in a well contested match.AFC Winton are a quality side, and after the goings-on in the Brivati Cup game (and subsequently on the Message Board), the Loco were really looking to put in a good performance against the probable league winners>

Indeed, the home side did really well for the first half. Darren man-marked the Winton dangerman Navarro throughout the game, and elsewhere, the team in blue were doing their duties well. The away side had limited chances, and Loco themselves had close efforts, with Barker going close on two occasions.

The second half was much of the same from the home side, however all caved in after 80 minutes with two quick goals in succession from the Winton lads, including an excellent poaching effort from close-range. All Locos good work was undone.

However, it was a good performance in all, which would hopefully carry on into the next game against fellow league contenders Alderney.
