Loco stalwart Jon Sharkey is raising money for AFC Bournemouth and people like Robin Folds, and if you’d like to sponsor him running the London Marathon, read on.Jon Sharkey, who now works for the the Cherries, as well as being one of the most capped Loco players, will be splitting money he raises between two very worthwhile causes:
The first is for the charity Help the Aged and the work they do to defeat ageism around the country, including within our local area; helping to improve quality of life amongst elderly people.
The second part of the fundraising will see funds going directly to the pitch at AFC Bournemouth, helping groundsman Dave Edwards to create the best possible surface for the team to play on - a better surface will see the team playing better football and will benefit fans’ enjoyment of watching the Cherries play.
Jon has to raise a minimum of ?1,200 over the next month and you can help by sponsoring him directly - visit his site and sponsor him on-line here.
Donating through the site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor Jon: Help the Aged will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. For example, if you gave ?20, this would mean that an extra ?5.64 would be given to this worthy cause by the Government!
Locomotive T&D wish Jon all the best, and will be getting some exclusive quotes from the chap through his marathon campaign.
Loco stun Magpies with 2-1 win

Sam scored one and Sean netted the other, in a superb game which put last weeks Winton debacle to bed, as Loco stunned Magpies with a superb 2-1 win.The match started with Loco playing some very solid football. Tug was in the middle for the first part of the game, however his strength in the middle of the park was so well received that he stayed in this position for the rest of the game. With Kenny and Dave wide on both wings, T&D also had the pace to get around the back of the defenders and whip it into the box.
Steve had an extremely strong game at the back, winning everything, and Scott, although his appearance was short-lived, also did very well. Stu deputised for Mountfield after 15 minutes, and this was the catalyst for Loco to dominate the rest of the half. We went close on several occasions, with Ed going closest with a close-range header; and then later, after some good work with Kenny, Squeaky went one-on-one with the keeper, however his shot was saved and the follow up went just over the bar.
The away side did manage to scare us at the back a few times, going closer every time, however we remained solid and confident, and we completely dominated in the middle of the park - Bomber being particularly instrumental in spreading the ball wide at every opportunity.
Dave and Kenny were getting room on the wings, and they were combining well with the defence, and that was proved on one occasion where the ball was laid back to Darren, who curled it in on to the head of Sean, whose on-target effort was palmed wide from the burly keeper.
The second half started in the same way as the first ended, Loco were playing confident football, however there was a momentary blip on 60 minutes which resulted in the away side scoring. The ball was lost at the back, and their nippy striker went through to lash the ball home from close range.
But this didn’t stop Loco from playing some very patient football, and on 83 minutes, the persistence was rewarded as Ed Bradshaw, who was brilliant in his new position just behind the front two, slipped the ball through into the path of Sam, who took the ball on towards goal and slip the ball past the oncoming keeper from an angle. A well deserved equaliser which would have probably made us happy in itself, however, we were not finished there…
On 89 minutes, Ed was strong in the middle, and laid the ball off to Sam who placed an incisive through ball into the feet of Sean, who was strong, and out-muscled his marker to clip the ball into the corner of the net from a tight angle to make it 2-1 to the home side.
The whistle blew moments later, and it was a superb end to a good season. Loco really have got the confidence and the skill to be progressing in this division. At the end of 2002/03, we came good right at the end, and this was the stepping stone for the side to win the championship the year after. This has happened again with a good win against a side that will be aiming to finish in the the top three. Next season should be an interesting one.
A good win, and here’s to next season. Final Score: Loco 2 - 1 Magpies.
