With the NEW SEASON fast approaching I thought I’d post up a reminder of one or two dates for you guys to add to your Summer of Loco Love Diary…

Thursday 13th August - 7pm - King George Playing Fields

Preseason Fitness and Ball Skills Session, secure your place in Sunday’s starting line up with a fine training session performance.

Friday 14th August - 7pm - Starting @ Inferno Pub, Holdenhurst Road
1st Social Of the New Campaign

**PUB SNOOKER!**

The Loco Galacticos hit Bournemouth Town for a night of drunken Loco drinking game based Love… The brain child of the social secretary Jonny ‘The Whirlwind’ Haines.
The idea is loosely based around Pub Golf, but instead of trying to see an individual drink away and recording your score on each hole (pub), you have to try and see each drink away in one and then continue to your next drink to add to your ‘break’ i.e. 1 red drink (1point) allows you ago at a black drink (7 points) the aim is to generate the largest break… some call it BINGE DRINKING, others call it a normal Saturday night out … hey Jacko?!

Even if your not massively in to your drinking (???) a night watching the rest of the squad ruin themselves is always great for team morale so drag yourselves down to Bournemouth Town for what is sure to be a memorable evening of Loco Love.

Sunday 16th August - 9:45am - Ferndown Sports Centre Car Park - 1st Preseason Game 2009

VS South Coast Demolition FC (Bournemouth Saturday Division 3)

Our earlier run out against this well organised and established team this pre season was a game of three halves, with loco triumphing in the first half 2-0, then being taught a bit of a lesson in the second half losing 0-5, the third half being marred by the break of one of south coasts players’ ankle/foot… all the best on your road to recovery fella!
So we know we’re in for a tough test on Sunday morning and look forward to seeing who makes early strides toward securing their starting place in the LOCO 11 for the new season.

Thursday 20th August - 7pm - King George Playing Fields (location TBC)

Preseason Fitness and Ball Skills Session with Fitness General Legg
More to follow…..

Gebrselassie and co. run Sturminster

After dabbling in a bit of Loco 6aside over the summertime, and toying with idea of a Loco Beach Volleyball squad…the Loco Roadrunning team aka ‘One-Legged Loco’ donned the cobbley tracks and country lanes of Sturminster Newton for what can only be described as an epic and brutal half marathon.

The idea was the brain child of Jonny ‘Gatorade’ Haines in order to raise valuable moolaa for the red and black of the Locomotive. Initial interest rapidly spread with Andy ‘the stride’ Smith, Dave ‘Paula Radcliffe’ Hall, Matthew ‘the endurance’ Webb, Matt ‘Moses Kiptanui’ Robinson, Ali ‘the tortoise’ Carmichael, Paul ‘The Wall’ Cashmore, …but it was the challenge set by Jimmy ‘The Lightening..’ Bolt that really spiced up the event…particularly for Jimmy ‘Zola Budd’ Redford. Layin down the gaunlet Bolty confidently declared ‘I shall pay £100 to anyman who thinks they can beat me in the half-marathon’…THE CHALLENGE WAS ON!!!

Their was chat of sabotage, maiming, broken limbs, but we quckly realised that the only way to beat this Army whipping boy aka running machine would be to actually train….Ali, Matt R and Jimmy took that on with gusto!!! Over time injuries struck down the likes of Jonny, Webby, and Dave, whilst Smithy relied on simple natural ability.

SHOCK HORROR Bolty felt the intimidation and cracked to the point of getting ENGAGED, the bet was off and the boy was never to be seen again. Fighting back from injury Jonny was back in contention, …the big day came.

On a hot August Sunday morning In amongst a crowd of 469 competitors the line-up of Jimmy, Smithy, Ali, Matt and Jonny (some prepared some not) for the Loco cause undertook the 13mile half marathon challenge. Dispersing at different paces the Loco boys (with the aid of regular refreshment points) strode on to dominate the hilly 13 mile (and in some places ‘all terrain’) course. With times ranging from just under 2 hours to 2 and a half hours the Loco boys had completed the run with pride, a fantastic effort
